Adventist HealthCare Names HealthSearch Partners to Lead Search for New President, Chief Executive Officer

Adventist HealthCare

Adventist HealthCare (AHC), based in Gaithersburg, MD, has selected Dallas, TX-based HealthSearch Partners to assist its Board with the search for a new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Adventist HealthCare (AHC) has served the Washington, D.C., region since 1907 and has grown to become a comprehensive healthcare system offering a full continuum of high-quality care across more than 50 facilities. AHC is a regional health leader, particularly in the areas of heart, orthopedics, rehabilitation, maternity and mental health, and consists of more than 10,000 team members, including 6,000 employees, along with affiliated physicians and other contingent team members.

According to Carlos Vargas, AHC Vice President of Human Resources and Talent Technology, “We chose HealthSearch Partners to lead the search for our next President/CEO because of their reputation for excellence in the mission-based healthcare industry. They have a proven track record of successfully placing qualified candidates in healthcare leadership positions and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the healthcare sector. Their expertise and network make them an invaluable partner in finding our next CEO.”

Vargas also explained AHC chose an external search firm to assist with a tight and compressed timeline, assist with the recruitment process, and broaden AHC’s access to a larger pool of candidates. “Additionally, external search firms provide a level of objectivity and confidentiality that may not always be present with internal recruitment efforts,” he added.

The CEO is the top system executive responsible for driving the entire missional, strategic, cultural and operational performance of Adventist HealthCare. He/she will work with the System Board to set AHC’s vision, shaping short- and long-range plans for success and lead the Board to utilize and leverage members’ expertise in service of Adventist HealthCare’s mission and strategy. This CEO will provide leadership for AHC in Maryland and the Washington D.C. metro area and will lead to continue to create opportunities for expansion, market growth and stronger financial success that protects future investment and excellent delivery of care.

The ideal candidate will have substantive experience as a CEO, President, COO, or other high level senior executive officer within a large hospital or health system environment. Additionally, candidates must have demonstrated success in leading an organization through substantive change, even “disruptive” change. Experience with innovative strategies and solutions beyond traditional primary, acute and tertiary care is strongly preferred, particularly within markets with difficult reimbursement and payor environments.

In addition, this CEO must maintain and even grow the System’s commitment to the spiritual mission and values of Adventist HealthCare and of the Seventh-day Adventist health ministry.

Ivan Bartolome, Chief Executive Officer of HealthSearch Partners said, “This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic and mission-driven organization and make a significant and meaningful impact on the communities Adventist HealthCare serves. AHC has a 17-year relationship with one of our founding firms. It’s an honor for us to continue to help them focus on their mission and improve the health in the communities they serve.”
