HealthSearch Partners Leads Search for Associate VP Human Resources / Human Resources Business Partner for Adventist HealthCare’s Shady Grove Medical Center
Adventist HealthCare (AHC), based In Gaithersburg, MD, has selected HealthSearch Partners to lead the search for an Associate Vice President of Human Resources for its Shady Grove Medical Center (SGMC) in Rockville, MD.
The AVP/HR Business Partner serves as a critical leader at SGMC and is responsible for the overall human resources strategy, initiatives, programs, and activities. As the on-campus daily strategic advisor to the President, the AVP/HR Business Partner will be fluent in SGMC strategy and the external environment to ensure that talent and culture are key strategic advantages for the continued success of the Medical Center.
This leader is also the primary conduit for all HR administrative and operating functions that benefit SGMC at the Support Center, which includes strategy, policies and procedures related to talent management, total rewards, employee health and wellness, EDI, HR information services, and workforce planning.
The AVP/HR Business Partner envisions, defines, develops, and implements a hospital wide HR strategy aligned with the Adventist HealthCare organizational strategy to maximize the Medical Center’s competitive advantage.
In addition to SGMC responsibilities, the AVP/HR Business Partner will be a significant voice in corporate AHC human resources strategy, working closely with the corporate HR leadership and team. The incumbent will serve on a wide variety of leadership management, medical staff, and system committees.
Opened in 1979, SGMC is a 396-bed acute care facility boasting a four-story patient tower, a high-tech surgery department for inpatient and outpatient services, and a Cancer Center. It is the primary healthcare resource for more than 550,000 residents of its service area. Mirroring the composition of its service area population, the hospital’s employees represent a broad mix of race, nationality, ethnicity, and religious backgrounds. With nearly 2,000 employees and 1,200 physicians on the medical staff, SGMC is one of the area’s largest employers.
For the past five years SGMC has been the winner of the National Work-Life Alliance’s Best Place to Work award. In addition, the Medical Center has a Cycle III Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) recognition by the National Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, an Institute of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). Its cardiac program has received a Silver Performance Achievement Award from the ACC Foundation. In addition, SGMC has been consistently recognized by the National Research Corporation (NRC) with the Consumer Choice Award for the most preferred hospital in overall quality and image in the Bethesda, MD, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The selected candidate will have a strong background in hospital Human Resources leadership with at least five years of progressive leadership experience and demonstrated results in employee, physician, patient, and customer relations. He or she will also have a track record of building positive relationships with senior leadership and physicians and strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver difficult messages to senior leadership. The selected candidate will also have experience in developing and motivating HR leaders, possess strong financial services acumen, and demonstrate strategic thinking, coaching, and organizational behavior/design/effectiveness skills.
A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred. The selected candidate also will be preferably credentialed in an appropriate professional society.
