Kansas City, KS-based University of Kansas Health System has engaged HealthSearch Partners to lead the search for its next Senior Director of Total Rewards. A key member of the Human Resources (HR) Leadership Team, the Senior Director will ensure that compensation, benefits, retirement, and wellness programs remain competitive, financially responsible, and clearly understood by leaders and employees throughout the Health System.

The Health System operates a flagship 1,000+ bed academic medical center in Kansas City and serves a population of more than 2.5 million residents throughout the bi-state region. It employs more than 20,000 professionals, including over 1,500 physicians across every major specialty and subspecialty.
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Senior Director, Total Rewards, is the primary strategic advisor on all reward-related matters. This leader brings a proactive, innovative approach to developing a unified rewards philosophy that balances market competitiveness, internal equity, fiscal stewardship, and talent needs.
This position oversees the full architecture of total rewards—including executive and non-executive compensation, incentive programs, health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, and employee wellness initiatives. The Senior Director’s scope of responsibility is significant, stewarding nearly $2 billion in annual rewards-related expenditures, including medical and pharmacy benefits, all additional benefit programs, compensation, and retirement for more than 20,000 employees and 50,000 covered lives. The Senior Director also carries fiduciary responsibility for approximately $1.5 billion in retirement plan investments.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a Master’s degree preferred. Professional certification in Human Resources or Total Rewards is also preferred. He or she will possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in broad-based compensation, executive compensation, and incentive plan strategy, design, and administration and will have demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership for total rewards within a large, complex organization; prior experience in health care is preferred.
