The Pharmacy Operations Manager serves as a key operational leader within the Health System’s ambulatory and retail pharmacy enterprise and is responsible for overseeing daily retail pharmacy operations while helping to design, scale, and optimize the Health System’s expanding centralized fulfillment model that currently dispenses approximately 1,500–2,000 prescriptions per day, with capacity designed to grow to as many as 6,000. This role blends traditional retail pharmacy leadership with large-scale operational oversight, automation strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives in a highly regulated and operationally complex environment.

The University of Kansas Health System is nationally recognized, providing world-class clinical care, education, and research across Kansas, Missouri, and the broader Midwest region. The organization serves as the region’s premier academic medical center and is known for its leading specialty programs and high acuity services. The Health System is an integrated network of multiple hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory sites in Kansas and Missouri, anchored by a flagship 1,000+ bed academic medical center in Kansas City and serves a population of more than 2.5 million residents throughout the bi-state region. It employs more than 20,000 professionals, including more than1,500 physicians across every major specialty and subspecialty.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, this leader provides oversight of retail operations at the central fill and mail order pharmacy currently located in Lenexa, KS. The Pharmacy Operations Manager plays a central role in the development and implementation of expanded fulfillment capabilities, including workflow redesign/improvement, automation integration, and operational scaling efforts.

The ideal candidate will have a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy and have an active pharmacist licensure (RPh) in good standing. Licensure with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy must be obtained within 120 days of hire, if not already held. An advanced degree such as a MBA, MHA, or related graduate-level business or health administration degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience in a retail, community, mail order, central fill, micro-fulfillment, or similarly scaled pharmacy operations environment is required.
